Three Planting Tips to Transform Your Garden

Are you a pot plant aficionado who’s ready to take that big leap into the garden? If so, then we’ve got a few tips about garden planting that are sure to make your life easier!

1. Always Consider The Climate

When it comes to garden planting, climate should always be your first and last concern. From the changing of the seasons to the temperature and the current rainfall, your climate will have a major influence over which plants will have the potential to thrive in your garden.

In the UK, we’re very lucky to have a temperate climate, meaning that a huge range of plants will grow here, but even still there’s a lot to consider – particularly right now as we move on into autumn. Keeping your plants alive during the winter is one of the biggest challenges to keeping a vibrant garden in the UK. That said, with careful planning, it’s perfectly possible to have a beautiful garden all year round.

2. Give Your Soil Some TLC

One thing people often overlook is the importance of soil health. Plants need good soil to grow and without that rich source of nutrients, they’ll struggle to survive.

Fortunately, there are two simple techniques you can follow to ensure good soil health. The first is to vary up your garden. By growing different plants you can improve the biodiversity in your garden, helping nature to do what it does best. The second is to use compost or, even better, keep your own compost heap/bin.

Composting is a simple and easy way you can make sure your plants are getting the nutrients they need while also taking care of any biowaste you may be producing along the way.

3. Make Sure Your Plants Have the Space They Need

Last but certainly not least, you should consider how much space your plants will need to grow. Plants need plenty of space so that their roots can spread out and the closer you plant them together the harder it will be for them to get the nutrients they need. While it may be tempting to try to cram as much as you can into your limited garden space, it’s important to avoid overcrowding wherever possible.
